Publication Date : 23-01-2013

Thai forces last year killed 15 provincial residents who illegally crossed into Thailand to cut luxurious wood, a report said yesterday.

The report, presented to a workshop chaired by Prum Sokha, secretary general at Cambodian Ministry of Interior, said provincial authorities stopped 69 illegal crossings and arrested 851 people.

In addition to killing 15 Cambodians, the Thai forces injured 19 and arrested 29 for illegal entry. Five were returned to Cambodia while the other 24 are still in prison.

The report said the shootings took place in Tropang Brasad district, where illegal loggers cross.

Prum Sokha said illegally entering Thailand is a serious issue and urged local authorities to take increased action to prevent such problems.
