$1.2m deal inked for Brunei maritime master plan

The Marine Department yesterday inked a US$1.2 million deal with Hamidon & Associates to provide consultancy services for the development of Brunei's Maritime Master Plan.

Over a period of nine months, Hamidon & Associates will undertake a feasibility study and environmental impact assessment on a number of projects under the Maritime Master Plan, including the expansion of channels in Muara and Pulau Muara Besar.

The local consultancy firm is further expected to propose strategies in line with the current status of project implementation and to increase maritime security as well as safety in Brunei.

Hamidon & Associates will also set out to identify the maritime industry requirements for sectors such as ship management, marine insurance, offshore engineering, marine equipment suppliers and the upgrading of Kg Ayer transportation services. According to a press statement, Brunei's Maritime Master Plan is a project under the 10th National Development Plan (RKN10).

The contract signing took place at the Ministry of Communications between the Communications permanent Secretary, Dato Paduka Hj Alaihuddin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Hj Mohd Taha, and the director of Hamidon & Associates, Hj Hamidon Hj Mohd Tahir.

"We are setting the foundation for our future generations. These projects will benefit all of us," said a member of the consultancy firm following the signing ceremony yesterday.
